The Solar Wars: A brief History

The Gene-E Program was instigated in 2060 Earth Standard, after the end of World War III as part of the United Peace Assemblies attempts to regulate and reduce the loss of life in future wars. Genetic enhancements became restricted to government programs and specialized licensed centers. Gene therapy was not affected. The first subjects in the Gene-E program were volunteers made up mostly of veterans from previous wars. After the Second generation, volunteers were no longer needed and new Gene-E Chimeras were born.

Using a variety of genetic retro-viruses and Gene splicing, the initial Gene-E generations used human volunteers as test-subjects. After the genetic sequences were solved, the original subjects were used to breed the future generations, with minor genetic modifications in vitro to perfect them.

The Gene-E program provided its own education centers for the Chimeras. An artificial culture was created for them to mature within on the specialized bases. The naturally born Gene-E chimeras were not human and did not have the same mental capacity. Terrans and Aquans had very simple minds which did not allow for higher thought. Aerials, due to the requirement to operate heavy machinery had slightly more advanced neural structure and were capable of some advanced reasoning.

In 2100 E.S., the UPA began allowing individual countries to create their own Gene-Es. Most major nations began their own programs at this time, a notable and ironic exception being the Southern Confederate States, which refused.

In an attempt to retain control, they UPA required that upon reaching puberty, microchips were implanted in the brain of the Gene-E’s to help control their impulses and make them more docile. These chips also theoretically prevented the Gene-Es from going against the UPA, though this did nothing to prevent the Solar Wars.

The Solar Wars were in fact a series of 3 major incidents leading up to the freedom of the Gene-Es. In the year 2152 E.S., a group of Russian Gene-Es, angry at their treatment and abuse, started plotting against the UPA. Under the guise of working for the Russian government, they took the New Baltimore Colony in the Keid system hostage, and threatened to activate the FTL drive of their BattleCruiser within the atmosphere. After an attempt is made to infiltrate and disable their vessel instead of negotiating with them, the Russian Gene-E crew carried through with their threat and completely destroyed the colony, rendering the planet uninhabitable.

The American Allied States declared war on Russia leading to increased global tensions. The only major incident of note during this short war, was the Deep Space Science Vessel, Rogue Mist making First Contact with the Bric’ta. Both the AAS and Russia sent BattleCruisers to claim the planet, however both were disabled and destroyed along with the Rogue Mist. The survivors ended up on the planet’s surface and became quarantined for the rest of the war.

The Russian BattleCruiser, Viper, was captured in 2153 E.S., and when it was discovered that the Gene-E’s had been working alone, a truce was called between the two nations.

Unfortunately, the crackdown on Gene-Es insubordination worsened after this, as the entire crew of the Ship was killed, even though not all had been involved. The Russian Gene-Es suffered the most with their treatment become far harsher, which helped to plant the seeds of rebellion in their thoughts.

Just two years later, in 2155, a group of renegade Gene-Es started a terrorist cell and began to take out government buildings all through Europe and Asia. The crackdown on Gene-Es was tremendous. Unfortunately, some press managed to find their way to the reservations, and broadcast the brutality to the general public. Massive public protests encompassed the globe. When a group of humans protesting the horrible treatment of the Genies were killed in a terrorist blast, these mostly peaceful protests erupted into full scale riots. These riots enveloped not only earth but many of its colonies as well. The Europe and North American Coalitions fought against the rioters and Gene-E terrorist groups for six weeks before they were finally put down. The Gene-E terrorists were captured and secretly executed.

Despite the silencing of the protests and riots, millions across the colonies were now aware of the conditions being forced on the Gene-Es and a secret rebel network began to form, providing intelligence and communication to the Gene-E reservations. In 2156 E.S., just one year after the riots, The Gene-Es as a single group declared open rebellion on Humankind. Previously, during the American-Russia war and later the Sympathy-Riots, the majority of Gene-Es had still followed orders and made up the majority of the armed forces that were deployed. Now however the bulk Armed forces turned against the nations that created them and in a serious of swift battles, the Gene-Es crushed the unprepared remaining human forces, with minimal Gene-E casualties. They had been bred for war, and now they proved just how good they were at it. In 2157 E.S., the UPA surrendered and granted amnesty and freedom to all Gene-Es. The UPA refused to recognize Gene-Es as full citizens however.

Parallel to the wars, or perhaps prelude to them was the discovery of the Bric’Ta. The alien race was discovered by the Science Vessel Rogue Mist just as the First Solar War erupted. In an effort to control the planet, both Russia and the United States sent a Genie ship towards it. In a pitched battle above the planet, the Russian ship was destroyed, the American one heavily damaged, and the Rogue mist crippled, causing it to crash onto the surface, killing half its crew. After that, the Peace council quarantined the planet until Wars end. It ended up in quarantine until the End of the Solar Wars. When it was finally over, the survivors of the Rogue Mist and those of the American Genie ship had bonded and together they wrote up a treaty, forcing the Earth Governments to leave the planet alone, only allowing those of the Rogue Mist, and science vessels they approved into the system, as well as the Genies already there. As well the treaty made it so that only Genie ships were allowed to ferry supplies between them and the rest of the colonies. The Peace Council grudgingly agreed, but only because meeting another Sentient race was so monumental. Not 2 years later, Contact was made with the Cathwin and the Go-Dey, when the Go-Dey made a power play for earth, attempting to destroy it. The Cathwin came to the rescue, fighting them back. The situation with the Bric’Ta was forgotten, and the Treaty remains in place today.
