The Galactic War: A brief history
In the early 22nd century Earth standard, The Cathwin had expanded farther than any other race. They had formed the InterGalactic Council to maintain peace and equality for all sentient races that would join. Within a span of 20 years, all known sentient races except three had joined. The Chesuli, whose entire culture and society depended on the enslavement of the Saldarians, refused membership due to what they considered the high cost. Saldarians, not having a voice of their own also did not join. The final race to refuse to join was the Goh-Dey, who had limited contact with others and was openly hostile in the best of times.
In ES 2025 (GY 4206), A migrating alien race, at that time not believed to be sentient, entered a Myn!arr system and began to attack their ships and asteroid mining facilities. The Archanis, as they were known became the first major test of the IGC. The IGC races each pledged to send small fleets of ships to the Myn!arr system to help eradicate the menace before it reached the large colonies on the inner planets. There were no other real threats to the security of the galaxy and so it seemed like an easy decision to send aid.
As the various militaries were mobilized and sent towards the Myn!arr system, one of the tribal leaders of the Goh-Dey saw an opportunity. Glysminchr, head of the Ixxq tribe had noticed the lack of Cathwin patrol vessels around the area her tribe had claimed as their own. Glysminchr saw a great opportunity in this and contacted the closest tribes to Cathwin space, 9 in all. Through subtle manipulation, lies, bribery, blackmail, and outright threats, Glysminchr managed to convince 8 of the tribes to follow her into attacking Cathwin controlled space.
As the attacks commenced, Glysminchr stayed deep within Goh-Dey Territory and began plotting. In the meantime, the Goh-Dey forces, underestimating the Cathwin, were quickly and swiftly beaten back. Despite the quick defeat of the Goh-Dey, the attack had left both sides confused; the Cathwin had not expected any type of coordinated effort from the Goh-Dey and were puzzled by the suddenness of it while the Goh-Dey forces simply did not communicate with one another leading to general disarray on their side. Glysminchr used this confusion to send out assassins posing as envoys to the 8 tribal leaders who had allied with her. Only 2 managed to survive the assassination attempts. Glysminchr quickly consolidated the power of the leaderless tribes under herself and brought order to them. Now armed with forces much larger than the tribes around her, Glysminchr began a quick and brutal campaign of conquest against the other Goh-Dey Tribes. By GY 4208, she had purged the leaders of 85% of the tribes and unified them under herself.
When the attacks on Cathwin space recommenced in late GY 4208, it was a very different battle. Despite still not being as technologically advanced as the Cathwin, the Goh-Dey now used something akin to tactics in combat and the Cathwin defense patrols, thinned out due to the Archanis incursion in Myn!arr space, were ill prepared to deal with the massive numbers being thrown at them. As the strikes became more strategic and the Cathwin began to lose ground, they appealed to the IGC, requesting the aid originally given to the Myn!arr to be rerouted to their battles with the Goh-Dey. The Myn!arr became furious with the Cathwin, seeing it as a betrayal and left the Council. With the Myn!arr no longer in the council, the other races reluctantly pulled their forces out of the Myn!arr system and began to combat the Goh-Dey. The battle with the Archanis was near an end thankfully, and the Myn!arr managed to eradicate the remaining hive in their system without the Council’s Aid.
Glysminchr saw an opportunity in the destruction of the Archanis Hive and soon after its eradication in the Myn!arr system, the Goh-Dey made contact with the main Archanis Hive. Little is known about exactly what occurred between the two, but by GY 4212, the Archanis had seemed to have allied themselves with the Goh-Dey, creating a second battlefront to the war. This was the official beginning to the Goh-Dey Imperium.
The Myn!arr, upon learning of this development, reluctantly rejoined the IGC and pledged their support against the Goh-Dey Imperium. All known primary species at that time with the exception of the Chesuli and the Vreem were now involved in the conflict. The Chesuli would continue to remain neutral, along with many Secondary races for almost a century.
In GY 4244, a secondary race known as the Hyre were forced to join the Goh-Dey Imperium, and became its front line force. The war which had up to that point started going favorably for the IGC, turned once more into a stalemate.
In GY 4306, The Goh-Dey broke through IGC lines and made an attempt to destroy Humanity’s home world, as they believed the Cathwin were secretly training them to join the war. The Cathwin managed to intervene and prevent the Imperium from succeeding. Ironically, due to this attack, Humanity did in fact join the IGC and the war effort.
GY 4308 saw the Goh-Dey start a new front in the war against the Ze’wet, who had recently made first contact but had been otherwise neutral. By GY 4311, they had joined the IGC.
In GY 4312, after the successful rebellion against the Chesuli, aided by humanity and Cathwin, the Saldarians officially joined the IGC and the war against the Imperium.
In GY 4332, the Goh-Dey made a renewed push into IGC controlled space, aimed at the Myn!arr worlds. Before the IGC could mobilize sufficient forces, the Imperium had broken through to the Myn!arr home world, Ul!ussa and destroyed it. The Myn!arr, furious at the inability of the council to aid them and save their planet, withdrew all their forces from the war and left the IGC for the 2nd time.
GY 4336 saw humanity’s divisions become dangerous to the IGC as some Human colonies and governments began acting against the interests of the IGC. In response the Cathwin called for a blockade of the Sol system and major human colonies, which the IGC agreed to.
In GY4341, the Chesuli, who had vanished decades before suddenly reappeared and began launch guerrilla style attacks against fringe IGC space. It is believed they are working with the Imperium.
The last major shift in the Galactic war occurred in GY 4343, when the Secondary species, the Nassxin joined the IGC, and once again the war became a stalemate. The Goh-Dey frequently lose more battles than they win, but overall the lines have not changed. For the most part the war has dwindled down to guerilla tactics, a few pitched battles every couple years, but not much more. It is at these crossroads, at either the calm before a great storm, or the last breath of it, that all races now stand.
